Brakes - quality repairs, competitively priced

Brakes are the the most important safety feature on your vehicle as it's vital that you are able to slow down and minimise your stopping distance to avoid road accidents.
Regular maintenance of your vehicle’s braking system will help ensure you have the braking efficiencies designed to meet your vehicle's needs.
Our qualified technicians use O.E. (Original Equipment) parts, which are manufacturer approved, and ensure all work is delivered to the highest standards at competitive rates.
We are proud that for over 40 years we have been consistently delivering service excellence, offering peace of mind with our high quality repairs.

How do vehicle braking systems work?

Most cars have brakes on all four wheels operated by a hydraulic system.
Brakes come in two available options:.
  • Older vehicles tend to have drum brakes
  • New models generally incorporate disc brakes
Both systems use friction and resistance to bring your vehicle to a stop.
Disc brakes have a rotor that is connected to the wheel. Brake pads apply pressure to the rotor, creating friction and bringing the car to a stop. Over time, brake pads and rotors will wear down and have to be replaced.
Drum brakes work on the same principal. A drum is attached to the wheel and when the brake pedal is depressed, the brake shoes press against the drum and slow the vehicle. Brake shoes, like pads will also wear out over time.
The front brakes play a greater part in stopping the car, because braking throws the car weight forward onto the front wheels.

Suspension

The job of the suspension system is to maximize the friction between the tyres and the road in addition to providing stability to the steering system.
Whilst there are a number of different suspension systems, the main components of the suspension system are:
  •  Springs help to support the weight of the vehicle, maintain the proper ride height, and absorb bumps in the road
  • Shocks reduce the up and down motion of the car that is produced when the vehicle hits bumps on the road.
  • Struts replace the shocks and springs on some vehicles. They combine the shock and spring into a single unit
  • Tyres keep the vehicle in contact with the road and provide traction to make driving safe
How do you know when to have your suspension checked?
  • If you feel every bump in the road or the vehicle body bounces
  • If your vehicle leans when turning
  • If you feel your steering wheel slipping
  • If your steering wheel is hard to turn

Why should you check suspension?

Good suspension maintains steering stability and promotes good handling.
With your suspension components working as designed, you'll benefit from a smooth and comfortable ride.

What will the Ravenscroft Technicians do when checking the suspension?

The main priority is your safety when driving your vehicle and when looking at your vehicle's suspension the Technician will check:
  • For play (movement) in your wheels, both visually and physically.
  • The rubber/poly suspension bushes to ensure they are not worn to excess
  • Also check the coil springs are working correctly and if the dampers are turning freely
  • A check will also be made with the shocks to check their performance in relation to the overall efficiency of your vehicle's suspension
After all these tests are completed the Ravenscroft Technician will provide you with a no obligation quote to get you back on the road with a smooth ride, feeling just like new.
